Porcelain Portrait Vase with Gilded Medallion – Circa 1880–1920

A porcelain vase of quiet authority — the kind of piece that stops a room.

The front carries a hand-painted portrait medallion set within a gilded oval cartouche: a young noblewoman in period dress, rendered with the delicacy and warmth characteristic of European portrait porcelain from the late 19th to early 20th century. The reverse is decorated with fine floral bands framed by formal gilt borders, structured in the horizontal register typical of the period. The overall palette — soft grey-blue ground, warm ivory, and burnished gold — is restrained and elegant.

Pieces of this type were produced across Central Europe during a period when decorative porcelain was considered a serious art form. Portrait vases in particular were prestige objects, made to be displayed and admired. This one has survived more than a century in good condition — a testament to both its quality and the care with which it has been kept.

For those who appreciate objects with a face and a story, this vase offers both. It is already approaching antique status, and will only become rarer with time.

Note: Origin and maker's mark are currently under further research. Additional documentation will be added upon completion.
